The North Carolina Department of Insurance now has an office in Gastonia, and Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey made an appearance on Monday. Causey's appearance was part of a ceremonial grand opening held Monday morning that featured Causey, as well as local and state representatives, but the office has been in use for around a year. Barry Smith, deputy director of communications, said that the Department of Insurance previously had an office in Charlotte, but they were looking for something that was both centrally located and more accessible.
